Ms. Coco Queen | Styllogy 104: 'FashionHD' Vol. I - SEQUIN

Hey Chicas!

Since I have landed on Indian soil everything about here is so colourful and over the top which inspired our last week’s lesson on Neon (Styllogy 103: "Style Pixels") and this week too the inspiration continues which brings us to FashionHD !

The colors accompanies the shiny and dazzling. 
The beautiful Indian bride dressed in an enormous anarkali Indian dress with sequin and gotta patti flowing through every bit of fabric like a bodice, her gorgeous gold jewelry especially the manga tikka and chunky hand cuffs, making her look like an epitome of an Indian Goddess.

The groom with the crisp and bright turban perfectly jeweled with uncut diamonds making it the perfect crown and the groom, the perfect owner of the Goddess' heart. All the relatives and friends dazzling with beautiful and overflowing joy and laughter.

Thanks to my Indian friends who took me, I got to witness this fabulous and larger than life Indian wedding last week and also a big thank you to my minions for all the correct names and insight on Indian wear and jewelry.

All things bright and wonderful- sequin, stones, gotta patti, the beautiful, exquisite gold and uncut diamond jewelry and various hems of anarkalis, which I happen to see all at one place at this Indian traditional wedding. All this SEQUIN BLING, HEMS AND JEWELRY reminded me of three very sought after trends for spring summer 2012. To be honest, India inspires me and confuses me at the same time! Are these trends inspired from Indian fashion or still nascent to India, you had it all this while yet, unaware! But no fear when Coco is here ! Trend #1 | Sequin by Ashish Gupta

WHAT?

‘Crazy Ashish!’ as vogue describes Indian born designer Ashish Gupta who is showcasing his collection in London fashion week since 2004. A graduate from College of Art, Delhi, his forte- SEQUIN and ONLY SEQUIN! Ashish reinvents (again & again & again) the application of sequin in his every collection. Reinvention!- What’s difficult for every other designer is an easy task for Ashish. From every flower in the horticulture to the Budha and spikes, Ashish does it all but only with sequin. Hence bling, shimmer and shine all the way, always! Personal favourite of songstress Katty Perry, Madonna and Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham and Lilly Allen , Ashish's last three collections are regulars at Top Shop. Here’s a look chicas at his spring 2012 collection.

The white dress is the best pick for an elegant yet shimmer night out and on the contrary the black dress with roses is for the hot saucy look (Angeline Jolie should have gone for this one for her 15 minute fame right leg show!) and these shorts, the perfect oopmh for the summer !

Hey gorgeous chicas !

How is the acme hot weather treating you? Ask me and I'll say its an Antarctica like icy sangria at Sevilla, Hotel Clariges, New Delhi, India. An ambiance like Sevilla can just morph into a cool day at a beach during Delhi's hot summer! Well, I'm sure this would describe my latest excursion to the hotspots of Delhi.

As far as today’s lesson is concerned, I think it’s more of a hit on the head. Its known how things that occur in our daily lives become a big part of our sub-conscience but we don’t even realise it and had it all this while. So tell me what comes to your mind when I say people drenched in pink, red, yellow colors? A beautiful bride dressed in hot pink or coral Indian attire? A drive down India gate in the mid of the night for a colour filled icy gola treat? Or Bollywood movie super star Govinda dressed in bright yellow pants, hot pink shirt and an electric blue scarf ? All these say one thing loud- INDIA and its culture BUT I say NEON ! Indian culture and people are so colorful and bright that I feel both are synonymous to each other.

Ms. Coco Queen | Styllogy 102: ' The Deadly Fashion' - Vol. II - SPIKES & STUDS

Hey Chicas!

As promised I am back with volume II of the Styllogy lesson- ' The Deadly Fashion'

So girls here is another staple for your wardrobe- SPIKES & STUDS!

Don’t give me that weird look! It’s not the usual deep kholed eyes, fishnet stocking or spiked hair that I'm going to tell you about. This season’s spikes & stud trend is a perfect mix of the feminine and the masculine, a mix which is lethal yet subtly classic and uber fashionable, just like a Bond movie! Rolling cars, hard core action, obnoxious villain, beautiful tuxes, the hot 007 bond but the most important part, the even hotter bond lady!  Just the perfect feminine add on.  

Going down fashion timeline this style trend wasn't even a fashion in the first place, but an anti fashion urban youth street culture, emerged way back in the mid 70’s in London as an anarchic and aggressive movement. It was only when designers Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren merged together to open their store ‘SEX’ and personified this fashion trend that this style took main stream and got popular as what we now know as the ‘Punk fashion’. Spikes,  studs, metal, leather and military boots, all became a strong statement and synonymous with punk.

This trend has inspired movie costumes, runways and the red carpets. The latest flick, Snow White and the Huntsman's costume designer, Colleen Atwood, has done an exquisite job with spikes and studs for the movie's larger than life costumes. Likewise, world’s leading fashion house, Versace has joined hands with Swedish based H&M for a exclusive collection that has distinctive emphasis on spikes and studs embellishments. This trend is a favorite of Grammy award winners Rihanna and Lady Gaga and is displayed by many Hollywood celebrities on red carpets as well as in their everyday wear.

Coco's All Time Belief No.3- Possibility of creating something of your own keeps life interesting! 

You can create your own studded and spiked clothes, shoes, bags etc. Just follow these simple DIY tips and you can pep up your old plain white shirt or ballerinas/heels or even that plain boring headband you have.

So gorgeous lets jazz up your boring shoes!

Things you will need:

• Metal stud or spikes - They are easily  available from a craft shop. You can even place an order online at Studs and Punks and choose from various available options.
• Adhesive (glue)
• Tweezers
• Marker Pen
• Shoes

Step 1: Design Your Pattern"]Take your shoes and mark the areas you want to place your studs/spikes on. 

Step 2: Glue Your Studs"]After you have figured out your patter, place glue directly on the shoe and with the help of a tweezer one by one place your stud on to the glued area.

Step 3: Let Them Dry"]Let your shoes dry over night and you are ready to flaunt them! Do this with what ever you have and spice it up.

Hey Chicas!

How are you doing? Hope the week is treating you pretty well. As far as my weekend that was, my dewy lovely  friends were sweet to take me out dancing <3 to this new place in Delhi called Anidra at the beautiful Hotel Aman. They had some ducky music with very interesting cocktails, my favorite being the Aam Sutra (aam=mango) and it seemed that everyone in Delhi wants to be there with their impressive wheels.

Well,  I do hope you dazzling damsels have been looking forward for your first Styllogy lesson with me, trust me you are in for a treat. Some of you must have chalked up some itzy bitzy idea about what its gonna be. Well my gorgeous, today we will discuss the legendary style statement, that was started by someone who I share my last name with, the Late Alexander McQueen, Skulls Skulls and more Skulls. 

From gothic, the style has gone deadly!

The Skulls have fit in every quarter from dresses to scarfs,  rings to shoes, baby clothes to food and the red carpet to gyms. Hollywood's who's who are flaunting it already.

I have seen some chicas uncomfortable in going gothic but these skulls are the perfect alternative, they may seem a little outrageous at first but it does the trick perfectly. It makes you look wickedly whacky but still keeps you tamed! Skulls are a perfect staple for your wardrobe, a perfect ingredient to pep up your undertone look and turn eyeballs.

So by knowing the answers to the 3W's: What-Who-Where, you too can follow the shadows of the dead, Haha! I mean the deadly trend!

Coco's all time belief - Its not what you wear, its how you wear it! A simple white shirt can be oomph-ed by the correct accessory! Watches, bracelets, neck pieces, hair pins, spectacles, nail paint!  Think it and you have it!
